My name is Niki Barr and this is a blog about all things travel–from trip itineraties to travel trips. I grew up in a small town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where everybody knows your name. Growing up in a rural town, there was one thing that kept me inspired–MUSIC! And so began a 20+ year career as a struggling musician, beginning with the Niki Barr Band and eventually my latest projects, The Last Year and Radio Hero. The biproduct of being a professional musician are the many opportunities to travel the world. Music took me to countries I would have never dreamed of visiting–from the Balkans to Djibouti, Africa to Diego Garcia.
My partner in life and travel, Scott, is also a professional musician and audio engineer. You can often find him in a recording studio or on stage with The Last Year or Black Hole Sons (formerly known as Everwatt). As you can imagine, music isn’t the most lucrative career. Despite this unfortunate truth, Scott and I enjoy a healthy travel lifestyle through applying the many tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years.
In addition to my music side hustle, I have 20+ years of web design and digital marketing experience. I put these skills to use every day as a Digital Project Manager for a global humanitarian non-profit. This amazing nonprofit promotes human development by responding to major emergencies, fighting disease and poverty, and nurturing peaceful and just societies in developing countries. To say I’m grateful for the opportunity to support this big-hearted nonprofit is a major understatement.
To date, I’ve traveled to over 30 countries and with that experience, comes a ton of valuable knowledge I’m ready to share with the world. The Offbeat Planet is a place to explore the best trip itineraries and travel tips.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’ll continue to follow me for all things travel!
